Liquid–liquid equilibria for ethyl esters + ethanol + water systems: Experimental measurements and CPA EoS modeling

چکیده
The knowledge and the capacity to describe the liquid–liquid equilibria of systems composed of fatty acid ethyl esters, ethanol and water are crucial for an adequate design of the biodiesel washing units found in the ethylic biodiesel production processes. Since limited data is available for systems of this kind, in this work measurements were carried out for fatty acid ethyl esters + ethanol + water systems containing some of the fatty acid ethyl esters most commonly found in biodiesels: ethyl linoleate + ethanol + water at 313.15 K, technical grade ethyl oleate + ethanol + water at 298.15 K and ethyl palmitate + ethanol + water at 298.15, 308.15 and 333.15 K. The experimental data were predicted with the CubicPlus-Association equation of state (CPA EoS). Using temperature independent interaction parameters, obtained from binary data, this equation of state was able to provide a very good prediction of the phase diagrams of the studied systems, with average global deviations of only 3.09%. 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Phase equilibria description of biodiesels with water and alcohols for the optimal design of the production and purification process
The water solubility in fatty acid esters and biodiesels and the vapor–liquid equilibria (VLE) of fatty acid ester + methanol/ethanol systems, formed at biodiesel production and purification industrial units, were modeled in this work to complete the development and application of the soft-SAFT equation of state (EoS) to the design and optimization of biodiesel production plants. The soft-SAFT ...
متن کاملModeling of Biodiesel Multicomponent Systems with the Cubic-Plus-Association (CPA) Equation of State
To supply biodiesel with the quality levels required by the standards for alternative fuels, the separation and purification units are extremely important in the biodiesel production plants. The correct knowledge and description of the phase equilibria in systems composed by transesterification products is essential for a correct operation and optimization of the purification process. For that ...
متن کاملModeling of liquid–liquid equilibria of aqueous alcohol + salt systems using amodified NRTL
The modified NRTL (m-NRTL) model is used to represent the excess Gibbs free energy of aqueous (alcohol + electrolyte) solutions. In this work, the m-NRTL model previously developed for representation of vapor-liquid equilibria for (polymer + salt + water) systems has been extended to represent liquid-liquid equilibria of (alcohol + salt + water) systems. The proposed extension is a modified of ...

New Local Composition-Equation of State Mixing Rules for High Pressure Vapor-Liquid Equilibria Using EOS/AE
In this study using Equation of State/ Helmholtz excess energy function, EOS/AE, two new local composition-Equation-of State mixing rules, LCEOS1 and LCEOS2 were developed in which the energy interaction parameters were expressed in terms of attractive and repulsive parameters of the cubic equation of state. The EOS/AE models are applied for equilibrium calculation of nat...
